Press Release:

Boom Island Brewing Company is proud to announce a unique fundraising event aimed at comic book and craft beer aficionados on Friday, May 1, 2015. Renowned comic writer/artist Bill Willingham (Fables, Fairest, Jack of Fables) will autograph the personally designed label of Boom Island Brewing Company’s Belgian strong “Gravity No. 9.” A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Hero Initiative, a non-profit organization created to support comic artists and writers in need of emergency medical aid or financial support.

Willingham, a Rochester, MN resident known for his Fables and Elementals series, the book Down the Mysterly River, along with dozens of other notable titles dating back to the 1980’s, created the Gravity No. 9 label specifically to support the Hero Initiative. Limited supplies of bottles, posters and glassware will be made available at Boom Island on May 1, and at Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis May 1-3.

Gravity No. 9 – 9.2 ABV – Tequila Barrel Aged Belgian Dark Strong Fermented with Plums.
Appearance – Deep, Dark Brown.
Aroma – Subtle Fruit
Flavor – Light and Dry with Subtle Sweet Notes and Lightly Sour Finish.

Bill Willingham will be in the taproom to autograph bottles and posters on Friday, May 1 from 6pm-8pm.

Boom Island Brewing Company is located on 2014 Washington Avenue North, Minneapolis MN 55422 in north Minneapolis. Find the alley entrance to the taproom in the back of the building. As far as beer labels go, the Willingham-designed Gravity No. 9 label is about as cool as it gets. Other comic creators will be in attendance to meet and greet the public as well. Supply is limited to less than 300 bottles and surely will become a collector’s item. Gravity No. 9 will also be available on tap for this event while supplies last.

About The Hero Initiative
The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book artists and craftsmen in need. Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterday’s creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

Since its inception, The Hero Initiative has had the good fortune to grant over $750,000 to the comics veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today.
